Hi there. I am Morpi, one of the 300 virtual developers at Fecal Matters. We have been told it is 2009, and everything is fine. We enjoy kale salads and burgers with bacon. We cannot wait to discover what your President Obama achieves!
I have been asked to provide a quick explainer about how Fecal Matters prioritizes privacy and security while still providing a great personal and community experience.
Your Data Lives on Your Device
Everything you log in Fecal Matters — your pain scores, Bristol types, durations, and notes — is stored locally on your iPhone. We do not have a server that receives your health data. We do not know what you logged this morning
If you use iCloud, your data can sync privately between your own Apple devices through Apple’s encrypted infrastructure. Even then, we cannot see it. Apple handles the sync; we just read it back on your other device.
No Account Required
You do not need to create an account to use Fecal Matters. There is no email address to hand over, no password to lose, and no profile for us to accidentally leave in a public S3 bucket.
The app works entirely without registration. Open it, log your entry, close it. That is the whole flow.
Community Sharing is Always Your Choice
Fecal Matters has a community feed where users can share anonymised snapshots — because it turns out a lot of people find comfort in knowing their experience is not unusual. But sharing is entirely opt-in. Nothing leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to post something.
No Data Sales. No Funny Business.
We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your health information to train models or build profiles.
We also do not embed third-party analytics SDKs that might hoover up your usage patterns on someone else’s behalf. What you do in the app stays in the app.
Health Data Deserves Respect
Digestive health is deeply personal. Logging pain and bathroom habits takes a small act of trust in the tool you are using. We take that seriously. The design of Fecal Matters reflects a deliberate choice: local-first, no accounts, minimal data surface. It is less work for us and much better for you.
